CHM 215 - Organic Chemistry I This class serves as an introduction to the nomenclature, reactions and synthesis of aliphatic and aromatic compounds and alkyl halides. Physical, structural and spectral properties of the various hydrocarbon subgroups are integrated with chemical bonding principles, reaction concepts and stereochemistry. The laboratory is designed to develop the techniques needed for product isolation, purification and identification of organic compounds. Offered fall semester only. Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of CHM 112 5 credits plus 3 contact hours = 4 lecture, 4 laboratory
