Skill Set
Employment in the Homeland Security field concerns itself with issues surrounding international and domestic terrorism, illicit drug trafficking, emergency preparedness, and an array of wide ranging social concerns. Students seeking this skill set will take classes designed to prepare themselves for careers in agencies at the local, state, and federal levels that deal directly with these societal issues. Students completing this skill set will meet basic educational eligibility requirements for employment at some Criminal Justice agencies that have Homeland Security responsibilities.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES/OBJECTIVES:
When students complete this program, they will be able to:
- described the multiple processes involved in homeland security protections including the challenges of protecting our nation’s borders
- demonstrate an understanding of the effects of illicit drug trafficking in the United States and the impact it has on society
- define the terrorist threat, the origins of terrorism and its impact on society
- identify the role of governments in planning, funding, and providing protections within the societies they represent.
