ED 101 - Introduction to a Career In Teaching This course is an introduction to the purposes and functions of education in American society for those planning a career in teaching or other educational service occupations. The course addresses issues such as the education of a prospective teacher, the rights and responsibilities of students and teachers, the history of education, school reform, teacher certification, financing public education and the purposes of schooling and curriculum. The course is designed to answer the student question of “why teach” and to assist students in their decision to pursue a career in education. Twenty hours of observation in K-12 settings is required. State laws may require a background check and finger-printing. Students are responsible for paying fees required for the background check. Prerequisite(s): None 3 credits = 3 lecture
