ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED ARTS AND SCIENCE DEGREE

Marketing is more than just a function within a company (i.e. sales, advertising). It is a business management philosophy that is customer-centric. It defines the purpose of a company as “to satisfy customer wants and needs at a profit” and impacts every part of the modern global organization.

Students completing this course of study will be able to secure employment in the field of retailing, sales, advertising, public relations and customer service. Study is applicable to both entrepreneurs and those wishing to join the corporate environment.

Program Outcomes/Objectives:

When students complete this program, they will be able to:

  1. Explain the role marketing plays in both individual companies and our economic system
  2. Identify potential market segments and select an appropriate segment for targeting
  3. Develop a marketing mix appropriate to a target segment
  4. Identify marketing research needed to confirm overall marketing strategy
  5. Demonstrate the use of web marketing and social media as part of the marketing mix
  6. Demonstrate the ability to make a compelling sales presentation using professional tools and techniques appropriate to the audience and situation
  7. Analyze real world business problems and be able to formulate, present and defend a solution
  8. Demonstrate ability to complete business math applications
  9. Demonstrate a basic understanding of business, accounting, economics and business law
  10. Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate
  11. Demonstrate the effective use of office applications, including:  spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software

* BUS 158  preferred or MTH 110  or MTH 112  or higher.

** or ENG 102 . If student takes OA 225 , 5 elective credits are needed; if ENG 102 , 6 elective credits are required.
