Developing software solutions to harness the ever expanding capabilities of today’s computer systems requires technical knowledge and problem solving skills that are in high demand. This program is intended for students wishing to complete an associate degree while preparing to transfer to a four-year school to pursue a degree in computer science or information systems. Since transfer requirements vary by institution, students are strongly encouraged to meet with representatives from the transfer school EARLY IN THEIR STUDIES. In addition, students should work closely with the SC4 Business and Information Technologies division and the advising office.

When students complete this program, they will be able to:

  1. design software solutions to ‘real world’ problems utilizing the software development life cycle,
  2. implement not-trivial programs in a modern, professional level programming language,
  3. demonstrate the use of Object Oriented analysis and programming techniques,
  4. demonstrate ability to complete algebraic or calculus math applications,
  5. communicate both in writing and verbally about computing and business concepts using technical terms effectively.

1st Semester - 15 Credit/15 Contact Hours

2nd Semester - 16 Credit/16 Contact Hours

4th Semester - 15 Credit/15 Contact Hours

** Bachelor’s degree Computer Science programs typically require a minimum of Calculus I & II and Linear Algebra. Students intending to transfer are encouraged to take MTH 1140  (Calculus I), MTH 2155  (Linear Algebra) and MTH 2150  (Calculus II). Students not intending to transfer should contact the Occupational Coordinator for Math options.

**** These courses are beneficial and relevant for CIS Programming majors. Appropriate substitution may be made based on student’s transfer requirements or area of academic focus.
