Associate in Applied Arts and Science
What makes a smartphone - “smart”? Software! Whether it’s called App Coding, software engineering, programming or application development, these are all names for the processes involved in designing and implementing the software that makes our smartphones, tablets, laptops computers and servers such amazing devices.
Students in the Associate in Applied Arts and Science - Software Development program complete a selection of courses examining and working with the various components of “full-stack” development, including: software development foundations; web client (front-end or browser) technologies; server (back-end) and object-oriented development; and database technologies. In addition, elective options are available to allow students to explore areas of interest related to CIS Development.
Graduates of this program will be prepared to apply for in-demand jobs such as application developer, web applications programmer, information technology analyst (IT analyst), software developer, and web developer. Graduates have multiple opportunities to continue into Bachelor degree programs, including some programs where, with careful planning, students can complete up to 90 credits at SC4 and the remaining credits (30-36) either online or on campus at the four-year institution.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES/OBJECTIVES:
When students complete this program, they will be able to:
- develop “full-stack” applications utilizing client, server and database technologies.
- be prepared to pass at least one entry-level development certification based on practice test scores.
- develop and document a solution to a non-trivial problem using an object-oriented computer programming language.
- be prepared to pass at least one mid-level development certification based on practice test scores.
- communicate professionally, both in writing and verbally, about computing and business concepts using technical terms effectively.
